To seek concrete solutions for engagement and growth challenges facing Associations, Dan founded Potomac Core in 2012. Dan’s remarkable energy, determination, and passion for innovation, growth, and member engagement reflect the values he and his team bring to clients. The Potomac Core Team has already helped small, medium, and large Associations align their organizations with member business and professional outcomes.
Throughout his career Dan’s colleagues, board leaders, clients, constituents, and Association members appreciate the collaborative, keen, and business savvy approach that he brings to his work. Dan and his team bring decades of Association leadership, record performance, and key insights. He served as Senior Vice President for the National Association of Manufacturers’ National Membership & Grass Roots operation, the first full time President and CEO of the Association for Corporate Growth, and as President of the American Solutions Advocacy organization.
Amplifying his desire to serve and help others, Dan also served for twenty-one years as District Three Councilman in the Village of Palatine, Cook County, Illinois. His service was recognized for “leveraging the public dollar in the best interests of constituents and the Village, and admired for consistent dedication to residents and business owners.” He currently serves as a member of the Prince William County, Virginia Strategic Planning Team.
Dan is a knowledgeable and insightful speaker, writer, opinion leader, and blogger at potomaccore.com with articles appearing in INC, Chicago Tribune, Forbes, and Washington Times. He’s also provided analysis on economic performance and M&A trends in outlets that include CNBC, CNBC Europe, Fox News, Fox Business, Dow Jones Marketwatch, Bloomberg, and the BBC. His High level perspectives on changing consumer patterns and how they drive economic performance and Association positioning is unique in the Association marketplace.
In 2014, Dan coauthored the eBook “Accelerating Strategic Member Engagement,” with Steve Lane of Vertical Leap Consulting and Bryce Gartner of Icimo. The research surfaces the associations that are experimenting with non-traditional approaches and demonstrating results. In 2013, Dan and Steve Lane of Vertical Leap Consulting developed a white paper, “Accelerating Member Engagement & Revenue Growth in Uncertain Times” that overviews an important building block approach to successful long-term association strategy. Dan also authored a significant Association Trends Article on how Associations “Become durable, relevant, and visible in a turbulent world”.
Under Dan’s leadership, Potomac Core has worked with several organization’s including: the American Staffing Association, Jewelers of America, Global Cold Chain Alliance, and NPES – The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies to help align each of them with the industry’s they serve. Potomac Core also conducted research and positioning work for the CPCU Society and helped organizations like the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association address investment reserve realities and strategies for re-aligning future dues categories.
Dan earned his B.A. in American History from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, he also earned a Certificate from the Yale School of Management, New Haven, Connecticut in Leadership and Team Effectiveness, and is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
